How Astradul is organized

Astradul is based in Paris, and has 'Association Loi 1901' status. This means that it is a not for profit organisation which has to conform to a specific set of rules (for example, its Committee members receive no payment for their services). Because this status is specific to France, the association's rules are in French. We have not included a translation in the English version of the site, but we will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the way Astradul works – just email us at: contact at astradul . org (without the spaces).

Meanwhile, here is a brief description.

We have an annual general meeting towards the beginning of each year, at which:

  • a report is made on the preceding year's activities
  • the accounts are presented
  • elections are held for the Committee (each member can only serve for three consecutive years)
  • members make decisions about the direction the association should take and the initiatives it should embark on during the year ahead.

This year, changes at ULIP including the closure of translation courses meant that we had to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting to change our rules and move our HQ. At this meeting, on 9 February 2008, we decided to shift the association's focus slightly to concentrate on helping members stay in touch and providing them with opportunities to launch professional and social initiatives. We held our ordinary AGM on 17 May at the Maison des Associations, Paris 75007.

About this site

Astradul first acquired a website in 2001. It proved useful to prospective and existing members, and to clients and employers in search of translators, and in September 2007 we moved over to the present version, which should help us build and maintain our network of translators, as we gradually tailor its content and features to suit members' and visitors' needs. We welcome your comments and suggestions, whether as current or prospective members of the association, potential clients or employers, fellow language-workers or simply visitors interested in finding out about our activities.
